通过逐字逐句精读韦斯特福尔的《近代科学的建构:机械论与力学》这部经典的科学史著作,让学生理解近代科学革命的两条关键线索,即机械论哲学与对自然的数学描述之间的交织和互动,了解关于科学革命的不同编史纲领的特色和不足,增强实际阅读和翻译外文文献的能力。
Course Description: Through reading Westfall's classic work on the history of science “The construction of modern science mechanisms and mechanics” sentence for sentence, let students understand the interweaving and interaction between the two key clues of the scientific revolution, namely mechanical philosophy and the mathematical description of nature, learn the features and shortcomings of different historiographical approaches about the scientific revolution, improve the ability of reading and translating English academic literature.
