课程内容简介：拉丁语基础系列课程（1、2、3）分三阶段完成，每阶段名称（括号内数字）不同、课号不同，学分相同。学完整个系列的学生将能够在拉丁语词典和语法工具的帮助下，独立释读拉丁语原文。第一阶段学习英文教材Learn to Read Latin的前八章，第二阶段学习Learn to Read Latin的后七章，学习拉丁语语音以及基本的词法和句法，以及每章短阅读（short readings）和段落阅读（longer readings）。这两个阶段的教学方式是由教师用中文讲授相关语法，学生通过背记语法表格以及拉英互译练习来巩固习得的知识。第三阶段为原文阅读，包括教材中的篇章阅读（continuous readings）及与学生专业相关的拉丁语原文。第三阶段采取翻转教学形式，由学生讲解所分配到的拉丁语原文片段的英译，要求能够正确翻译并说明原文所涉及的语法知识，其他同学在老师指导下对讲解者提供的译文和语法分析进行讨论。由于课堂学时有限，学生需要在课后花费较多时间做练习才能跟上进度，第一阶段需要的课外练习时间（背记及练习）每周至少6小时，第二阶段和第三阶段至少9小时。无论是否坚持学完三个阶段，本课程都有助于学生对英语以及罗曼语族语言（法语、意大利语、西班牙语等）的学习。
Course Description: The “Elementary Latin” series courses are divided into three stages (1, 2, 3). These 3 three-credit courses are different in their names (marked by 1 or 2 or 3) and codes. Students having finished the whole series are supposed to be able to read original Latin texts with the help of dictionaries and grammatical tools. In the Elementary Latin (1) and (2), students will follow the chapters 1-8 and then 9-15 of the text-book Learn to Read Latin Second Edition. Vocabularies and Grammars will be explained in Chinese by the instructor in class, while students should do considerable exercises after school in order to become familiar with what they learned in the class. In the Elementary Latin (3), students are required to present to their peers their translations and grammatical analysis for the selected original Latin passages, followed by a discussion with the audiences (the tutor and the other students). After-course practices (reciting and translations) are essential for anyone desiring to complete the whole series, the estimate hours for the course (1) are 6 at the minimum, and 9 for (2) and (3). This course will also be helpful for the study of English and the Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish, etc.).
