课程内容简介：理解科学与宗教的关系对于深入理解西方近代科学的兴起或科学革命起着至关重要的作用。彼得·哈里森（Peter Harrison）是目前研究科学与宗教关系的顶尖学者，在《圣经、新教与自然科学的兴起》和《科学与宗教概念的演变》中，他考察了“科学”与“宗教”概念的演变，以及圣经在自然科学的兴起过程中所起的作用，显示了圣经的内容，尤其是它被诠释的方式，对公元3世纪到17世纪的自然观产生了深远的影响。近代科学的兴起与新教处理文本的方法有关，这种方法宣告了中世纪象征世界的结束，为科学地研究自然和用技术开发自然确立了条件。这两本书的各种论题极为新颖，均为国内所未见。
Course Description：The understanding of the relationship between science and religion plays a vital role in understanding the rise of modern western science or the scientific revolution. Peter Harrison is a leading scholar in the research of the relationship between science and religion at present. In The Bible, Protestantism, and the Rise of Natural Science and The Territories of Science and Religion, he examines the role of Bible in the rise of Natural Science, shows that the contents of the Bible, especially the different approaches of interpreting the Bible had profound effects to conceptions of nature from third Century to seventeenth Century. The rise of modern science is related to the way of Protestantism' dealing with texts. This method declares the end of the symbolic world in the middle ages, and establishes conditions for scientific research of nature and the exploration of nature by technology.
