课程内容简介：本课程由两方面活动组成：一方面以案例讲座的形式，向学生讲授包括古代两河流域、古代中国、古希腊，古印度以及中世纪阿拉伯语和拉丁语世界的数学思想和实践及其与文化的关系，着重于让学生初步领略当今数学史前沿研究是如何利用各种材料和方法来推进相关认识；另一方面学生们还要在教师辅导下尝试此种探究。
Course Description：This course is comprised of two kinds of activities: on the one hand, a series of lectures about the mathematical sciences in the ancient world including Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Greece, India and Medieval Arabic and Latin world, with emphasis on the ways in which the pioneering researchers of the history of mathematics are using different types of materials and methods to advance our knowledges on the mathematical thoughts and practices of our ancestors of different cultures; on the other hand, a try of practicing this kind of research with the help of tutorials.
