讲座摘要：

This presentation will discuss how science has shaped human-insect relationships. In Japan, the term "Gaichu" (insect pest) became common at the end of the nineteenth century, when the government forced people to control insects. Economic entomology, as an emerging discipline, played an essential role there. On the other hand, science has an aspect of monitoring nature. Entomology, too, monitors a wide range of nature, predicting pest outbreaks. Through the environmental history of insect pests, I will consider the meaning of "disasters" for humans in the age of emergency.

主讲人简介：

濑户口明久，京都大学科学哲学科学史博士。现任京都大学人文科学研究所准教授。他的研究领域是科学技术史、科学社会学与环境史，目前主要关注东亚的生命科学、人类与自然的关系。2009年出版专著《害虫の誕生 : 虫からみた日本史》（《害虫的诞生：虫所见的日本史》），参与编撰《日本の動物観:人と動物の関係史》、《昭和後期の科学思想史》、《よくわかる現代科学技術史·STS》等多部著作。2024年1月出版新著《災害の環境史 : 科学技術社会とコロナ禍》。
