主题:Cosmological Waterscapes. Historical Hydrology and Present-Day Planetary Concerns
时间:2024年5月16日(周四) 14:00-18:30
地点:清华大学蒙民伟人文楼B206
简介:
This workshop constitutes the second international meeting at Tsinghua University to discuss the question “What is the role of water in the dynamics of human civilization, and what are the implications for contemporary water management?” (UNESCO Intergovernamental Hydrological Program (IHP-IX Strategic Plan, Annex 2, n. 23) in the framework of the project Cosmography of Historical Waterscapes (历史水域景观的宇宙论), funded through the Tsinghua University Initiative Scientific Research Program (清华大学自主科研计划). This is an exchange project which aims at a comparative study of historical waterscapes in different localities across the world by looking at the epistemological connection between cosmological and ecological knowledge in water-landscapes engineering. The main goal is to study water heritage as an open-ended historical geo-anthropological process, comprehend the current conjuncture, marked by socio-ecological unbalances, and assess alternative pathways to a sustainable future.
This session will delve into philosophical and utopian perspectives as well as historical case studies from various cultures (India, México, Persia, and Europe). This will show how historical analysis could serve the discussion for contemporary planetary issues concerning the problems of water resources and their sustainability.
