Amadeus William Grabau was a world-renowned paleontologist of the 20th century. In 1920, at the invitation of Ding Wenjiang, he came to China as Director of the Paleontology Department of the Geological Survey and Professor of the Department of Geology of Beijing University. With his outstanding talent and extraordinary diligence, Gripp not only wrote a large number of books on Chinese paleontology and topology, but also trained a large number of young paleontologists, making Chinese paleontology from scratch and the world's attention, as the "father of Chinese paleontology".
Amadeus William Grabau and Chinese Paleontology is divided into three parts: the above is a biography or commemorative text written for Gripp by Chinese and foreign scholars at different times, the below is an article written by Gripp to commemorate Chinese and foreign scholars and related scientific works, and the appendix is three academic papers published by the author on Gripp in recent years. This book outlines a rich, stereotypical image of Gripp and presents the active Sino-Western scientific exchange and academic ecology during the Republic period.
