Welcome to the Department of the History of Science at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. We are committed to cultivating scholars with an interdisciplinary perspective and broad knowledge in the history of science. Our department makes significant contributions to the Undergraduate Liberal Arts Education at Tsinghua University, and offers more than 40 undergraduate and graduate courses, covering the history of science and technology, philosophy of science and technology, and Science, Technology, and Society.
For undergraduate students at Tsinghua University, the Department of the History of Science offers a minor in the History of Science (students should take 30 credits from the department) and a certificate program in the History of Science (15 credits). The History of Science minor was established in 2018 and serves as the first undergraduate program in the History of Science in China.
For prospective graduate students, the Department of the History of Science offers M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. We welcome applicants from all kinds of backgrounds, regardless of their gender, nationality, or ethnicity.
The M.A. program currently offers four fields of study.
(1) History of Western Science and Technology
(2) History of Chinese Science and Technology
(3) Science, Technology, and Society
(4) Philosophy of Science and Philosophy of Technology
The Ph.D. program currently offers two fields of study.
